2012 Ford Mustang Shelby 1000

The newest generation Ford Mustang Shelby 1000 will be officially unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show, sporting over 900 hp.

To celebrate fifty years since the first Shelby Mustang was introduced, the Shelby 1000 stays true to its performance roots and takes the current GT500 to a whole new level. Starting with the 650 hp GT500, the team at Shelby took the 5.4 liter V8 and stripped it right down to the block. New rods, crank shaft and pistons were then fitted to the motor, as well as upgrading the cooling and exhaust systems and adding a new supercharger.

To control all that new power, the brakes get a six piston setup in the front and four in the back, as well as new struts, sway bars and bushings for the suspension. To top it all off the body gets a nice aerodynamics kit meant to embrace a ‘stealth’ look.

John Luft, the president of Shelby American said, “He (Carol Shelby) challenged the Shelby American team to develop the Shelby 1000 and wanted to unveil this amazing new Shelby at the New York Auto Show celebrating 50 years since he unveiled the very first Shelby Cobra that changed the face of high performance. We will have that very car, Cobra #1 (CSX2000)  along with Shelby 1000 on display in our Shelby American booth in New York.”

The car will be offered in two different forms, the street legal 950 hp Shelby 1000, and the track oriented Shelby S/C edition which is rated at over 1100 hp.

A limited run of Shelby 1000s will be built, and after all is said and done will cost roughly $200,000.
